It seem that the reason for a lack of a customary spring Live update is because Micro$oft is redoing the interface completely.
Amongst some of the fixes (you can access everything from the button in the middle of the controller rather than having to end what you're doing and go to the blade system), they are adding group support at the live level (so you can use the same group with multiple games), avatars (mii's, probably with a bit of 'tude) and copying games direct to the hard drive (to reduce loading times) among others.
All in all, it looks like the 360 is going to keep with with the Joneses for a while.
