Breaking news: UK politician talks sense on piracy!
February 24th, 2009Well, there’s been something of a furore over the law recently passed in New Zealand enforcing the RIAA/MPIAA (or their NZ equivalents at least) holy grail of “3 strikes and we take away your internets” whereby if you’re served with piracy notices 3 times (bearing in mind that a piracy notice is an accusation, not an infringement proven in front of a judge), then you are blocked from the internet (along with everyone else in your house).
Luckily, here in ol’ Blighty, we have at least one politician talking sense on the matter! I never thought I’d say it about anyone in the Labour party but thank God for the Culture Secretary, Andy Burnham.
Good job.
There has been a code to cover this disasterous piece of legislation which has been reported on here (there’s a link to the actual draft of the code in the story), but really it’s just backpedalling from politicians looking to save face and not worth the time it is taking to draft because the people that are going to be calling for the law’s use are the people that brought you these great stories - one, two, three.
