1up Yours - RIP
January 29th, 2009I am utterly distraught that my favourite podcast, 1up Yours, has died of cast-departure.
I just listened to the last one on the train home last night, and the train in this morning (it weighs in at a whopping 3 hours 27 minutes - apparently they killed GarageBand) and they had me, along with the host Garnett Lee, in tears.
Week to week, this has been one of the podcasts, along with TWiT, MacBreakWeekly and the VideoGameShow, that I have found completely unmissable, with it’s great blend of gameschat, humour and out-and-out nerd-rage. The hosts, Garnett Lee, Shane Bettenhausen, John Davison and occasional Luke Smith have had me laughing out loud on packed trains consistently and I will sorely, sorely miss their rapport.
Of course, this isn’t the end for them. John Davison runs a parent-focused gaming site called WhatTheyPlay.com which I’ve started (as a parent) reading with enthusiasm, Shane is going off to publisher, Ignition Software to leverage his HUGE opinions and encyclopedic knowledge of games on their future catalogue, Luke headed over to Bungie over a year ago, maybe to take some butts.
The remaining guys, Garnett and Andrew, are staying in the brave new world that is 1up after being sold to UGO and continuing to make podcasts (and it would seem some of the older cast like John D. will occasionally be coming back in support), but the king that was 1up Yours is no more.
I, for one, wish all of the guys that gave me almost 3 years enjoyment all the best and cannot wait to see what the future holds for them. Now, make some more of your damn shows, Garnett - we love ya.
