The truth about Digital Rights Management

July 25th, 2008

So Yahoo Music is going dark and getting rid of it’s DRM key servers, effectively making any music purchased from them useless (you can’t listen to it if it can’t be authorised).

Anyone interested in further study of these ridiculous schemes that the Music Industry has been levying on the paying customer, basically to force them to buy their music in  different formats for each player they want it on should go and take a look at defectivebydesign.org

UPDATE: apparently Yahoo Music subscribers have been given the choice to convert to Rhapsody so all is not lost… if you don’t mind converting to Rhapsody
