iPhone still eating everyone’s lunch…
April 3rd, 2008Looks like the other mobile phone companies are STILL trying to match Apple with their own new handsets.
The problem is that, unlike in the pc market where there’s quite a lot to be said for using the most prolific platform, in the mobile phone market, 90% (fully-researched stat, there) of users just want the thing to work and make their friends wish their contracts were up and if it does these things, maybe a java game or two wouldn’t go amiss.
Despite what most pundits may have said about Apple’s entry to the mobile phone market (before they actually saw the iPhone, that is), Apple has been a shoe-in with it’s awesome industrial design, linked music market and astounding UI design.
And it’s only going to get better from here. With the SDK stepping up to bat, games companies like EA and SEGA ready to roll with 1st tier videogame titles like Spore and Super Monkey Ball, and rumours of the next version coming in June to include GPS and 3G, Apple looks set to dominate the high-end market for some time to come.
Let’s hope Apple gets tired of making piles of money and don’t ever release a mid-range version or we may see some megalithic mobile-phone companies start to look very sweaty indeed.
